I'm a new bassist and I have a huge problem. The neck on my Epi Thunderbird was removed and put back on but now all the strings touch the fretboard and won't tune. Does this involve the truss rod? |

All the strings being off will cause the neck to bow backwards since it has no tension on it. As a result you have to wait for the tension of the strings to pull it back into place. |

Don't panic. To understand whats going on be sure to read the 'Stickies" at the beginning of the "Hardware, setup and repair" section of the Forum called " ALL BASIC SETUP QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE"
After that, if your unsure as to what to do next, Take it to somebody and have it set up. (Usually around $35).
We all have to start someplace.

whatever you do, don't leave it leaning in a corner, strings to the wall. that will just make it worse.

Happens on alot of basses where its a tight fit, and it wont sit in even when you tighten the neck bolts. Just undo the bolts, push it in nice and proper (look if theres a gap between the neck and the body.)
To experienced guys here: In order to help new guys we must think like new guys, maybe he didnt think to check that its sitting in properly. It might seem obvious to us, but everyones mind operates differently.

That would account for the neck being set at the wrong angle, thus the strings bottoming out.

Thanks.
Everybody else: Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. |

guess you found the problem.

How will this make it worse.

Disregard all this advice. Every bit of it is wrong.
