Help!!! Need Saddles for an Epi Allen Woody Bass Bridge

Hey,

I bought a used Epiphone Allen Woody, and the guy who sold it seems to have lost the saddles. Duh-oh!!

What are the options for replacing them? New bridge? Replacement saddles?

Help!

- Jim

Check with Epi for parts? I believe that's a standard 3-point, so you might find a bridge cheaper than parts.

Odd to lose the saddles - I guess he wasn't playing it... (DUH...)

Are you missing all four?

I have some chrome ones.

You could drop a Hipshot Supertone bridge. They are around $90 and a much nicer bridge then the stock 3 point.

Yeah, all four are missing.

The gold Hipshot is more like $129. I may go that way, but I'd like to hear the damned thing first before investing that much in a bridge.

Reports on the Allen Woody are very good indeed - from everything I've heard it's a great bass.

Ebay might be your friend for a used bridge...

Yeah, the black and chrome ones are $89 and they get $10 more for the gold.

Unfortunately, that's not a BIN price, and on the BBG website, the gold ones are outrageous. Thanks, though.

They sell a lot of bridges. Bet you can get one for close to the opening bid if you're patient.

JimFog,

HD Custom Guitar Supply on eBay has the Gold Supertone for $109 shipped. Here's the link:

I've bought a lot of stuff from them. Very dependable.

The chrome saddles look fine since they are not very big. I put the Allparts on mine because the stock ones were too high to get the action low enough. The Allparts set was perfect.

You might want to PM 49sfine who bought my Allen Woody with both the Allparts and the original saddles. He might sell you the originals if you want those, but I would suggest going with the Allparts.

Is this the Allparts saddle set you mean? The Gibson set will fit the Epi bridge?

Thanks!

No. Epi saddles are all different height. The under part that fits into the slots is also a different size. Search around for guys that put Hipshot Supertone bridges on their Epi's; they mat hook you up if you pm them. Some guys swapped them on their Jack Cassady's.

If you're going to pay 25 to 28 bucks a saddle - just get the Hipshot and have a better bridge.

For the record - I have a Allen Woody. I've had no issues with the bridge, but I did add some nylon wrapped strings and tea cup knobs, and I would have no problem spending 100.00 for a new bridge for it if necessary. They're worth investing in I.M.O.

Edit - ok - I see that price is for the set. That makes more sense

I think it's $28 + shipping (so $35 or so) for all 4 saddles, IF the Allparts saddles fit........but your point is taken. I may go that route, but I have to get mind mind around spending 1/2 - 1/3 of the bass price on just a bridge.

This one, right??

Ah, screw it. Time worrying about this stuff is worth money, too. I bit the bullet and bought the Hipshot.

Thanks, all!

You may never really know, but you made a great choice.
