Help needed: bad buzzing on SX Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
Fairly new SX Jazz Fretless has developed a serious buzzing sound when you touch a string and release it. If I touch another string, the tuners, or the bridge, the buzzing stops.

I took off the bridge and made sure the ground wire was through the body and making good contact with the bridge.

I checked the other end of the ground wire. It is securely soldered to the Tone pot (V-V-T pots). If I touch the output jack, I can make the buzzing better/worse, so I replaced it with a new one. Buzzing still there.

Interestingly enough, with the control plate off and the bass plugged into the amp, I can reproduce a terrible buzzing sound by touching the #1 terminal (for lack of the proper term) on any pot. This is without touching a string.

I have 3 other basses and this issue is isolated to this SX.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

ack

Most likely still a grounding issue.

Pickup cavities are probably not shielded. Shielding helps but single coils will always pick up noise if you are in a electrically noisy environment. Use the forum search feature for more info.

The pickup cavity is not shielded. Buy some metal tape from a music supplier and lay it down. Also, check to see if the ground wire under the bridge is actually touching the bridge. But the shielding will go a long way toward quieting your pups.
