Smile Help On O-Bass Set-up

So,

My Fender MIM P-Bass has been playing weirdly and not cool in the past 2 months.

I feel it has been lacking tone on the treblely side and the neck just feels like it's too tight when I play the strings

slapping doesn't sound as good as once did, I get like this too percussive almost buzzy sound and I know it's not technique

as well as tapping

I've noticed the bridge is off, the height of all strings is quite odd

and that the tension of the strings is a bit loose,

I've also noticed the strings on the 1st fret have very little room between them and the fretboard

while the ones at the 17th have a lot of room

hmm

I have the tools to set up this bass, just need a good guide... preferably with pictures, I've not found a good one yet

Help?

There's a sticky at the top of this board called "Basic Setup Questions Answered" which has links to a few tutorials that should help. If that doesn't get you where you want, go get Dan Erlewine's book on guitar setup.

Here's a link to the Fender factory setup specs (i.e. the measurements Fender sets basses to from the factory). It's a good starting point: http://www.fender.com/support/basses.php
