help please! Action too low after neck swap

my flatmate re-fitted my fretless neck to my fender jazz (which worked fine before) but the strings are pretty much just touching the fretboard so it's unplayable

i've tried fiddling with the truss rod, if i turn the alum key left (whilst looking at the bass from the front) it tightens the strings even more but if i turn it right, it just keeps going until the nut inside the neck feels really loose to turn (this i assume is the correct way to be turning it) but i can't turn it enough to make it playable

i've tried raising the saddles on the bridge as high as they can go but its still rubbish

help please!! i haven't got a clue what i'm doing!

problem solved, just ajusted the saddles pretty much as high as they go and it plays fine now with no buzzing (i hadn't plugged it in yet so didn't take into account the fact i was playing it 5 times as hard as i normally would plugged in, which didn't help things)

when you say ajust the neck angle, how would one go about doing that? i thought that was what the truss rod did (i'm clueless when it comes to guitar mechanics)

You probably need to put a shim in the neck. Doesn't take much, maybe .75mm or so. You may have to experiment a bit to find the right amount.

Moved to Setup & Repair.

Also edited the thread title to make it more descriptive. Threads titled 'help please' often get ignored.
