HELP: rattle buzz sound when playing the bass unplugged

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had this 70's P-bass copy for a few months - and it's been fairly relaibe bar the clasic hum/buzz when i take hands of the strings
-
Anyway I took it apart and the strings off to shield the bass with copper foil rewire it to be rid of ground loops and replace the pickups-
Good news electrical hum gone
-
bad news since putting the strings and bridge back on I've been getting a rattling/buzzing sound coming from the bass (happens when its unplugged) the sound happens on all strings all over the neck although its more pronounced on the higher(pitched) strings.

The sound does however lessen when I apply some pressure across the strings behind the nut

any ideas or tips much appreciated
cheers

You cut your strings too short. As a consequence they don't wrap down around to the bottom of the peg and the breaking angle behind the nut isn't sharp enough, which creates buzz.
That or it's just a setup issue. Maybe you changed neck tilting.

the strings are the same ones that we're on it before
i didn't change any thing as much as I'm aware from what it was before the saddle heights might be slightly different but i wouldn't imagine much
