Help with relic "checking" on Nitro

Sign in to disble this ad
I've painted 2 bodies now with Raranch Nitro and I've tried the freeze spray with the upside down air cans and putting the body in the freezer for 2 days and I still get no checking. I clear coated both of them. Was that the problem? #1, will I get checking with the freeze spray if I don't clear them first or am I just off base with the freezing part. I apreciate the help as I have MS and don't have the $ to pay a pro to do the checking. I'm pretty good at the standard relicing, but I can't get the checking and cracking at all.

THANNKS!

On old basses finish checking (cracks) comes from the shock of temperature change. Like leaving your bass outside in your car when it is below zero and then bringing it into your house at 72 degrees. The quick 80 degree temperature change is what causes the checking. Modern finishes don't check as easy as old vintage finishes.

Try putting the body in a freezer and then hit it with a hair dryer.

Or Hair dryer first, and then freeze spray!
