HELP...serious issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay...I'm getting dead spots all up past the 12th fret on the A and D strings, after I had to lower the saddles slightly at the bridge to lower the action on my Fender US Jazz. I need suggestions on how to remedy this rather quickly, I've got a gig coming up tonight and I need it sorted.

Cheers

The quickest fix is to raise the bridge to where it was and put up with the high action until you have time to do a proper setup.

You may have to adjust the relief and in some cases, shim the neck if it's a bolt on neck to get the lower action.

A lot of bolt on necks develop an annoying hump near where the neck joins the body. You'll have to sight along the neck to see if that's the case.

That's fine. Do the quick fix for now and take it to a tech when you have time. Over time you can get good at doing it yourself if you are so inclined. It just takes a bit of practice and experience.

You can find a lot of info on the internet on how to do it. Beware, as there are a lot of false data being spread around and taken as gospel. One guy reads something in a bass gear magazine, doesn't understand it, then passes it along in an altered version. A good book from a reputable repairman is usually the best bet.

Cheers guys

I was using Gary Willis's setup advice, I guess that's got to be on the level.

Will check out that sticky now, Joshua, thanks
