Help with SX replacement neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I finally picked up a blocked jazz neck from Rondo Music after hearing good stuff about their blocked replacement necks and after waiting awhile for them to get the rosewood blocked necks in. Finally got it in today, and it didn't even have the nut slot cut (I knew it didn't include the nut per the description). However, it does appear that it was cut with a fret saw exactly where the center of the nut should probably be. I have a pre-slotted Tusq nut that I got for this neck, but didn't realize I'd run into the dilemma that the neck wouldn't be cut through to install the nut. What could I do from here?

What's the scale and number of frets? If you're neck is a 34" scale, use this scale:
and measure back to the nut from one of the frets to determine exactly what length that nut slot must be at. Other scale dimensions can be found here: http://www.buzzardsbass.com/workshop.html

Yeah, the neck is a 34" scale with 20 frets. I understand the table you've posted, but don't understand how exactly I might go about getting it slotted, since they already put a cut at the center of where the nut should be with what I would guess would have been a fret saw (almost like you could just stick a fret right there). I'm also curious about how much I'd pay a luthier to do this... especially considering I only paid $60 for this neck.

electricJ,

Did you get a credit, or a refund?

I just noticed the "uncut slot" necks going for 19.95 on the site.
