Carnauba wax, which is extracted from the leaves of a Brazilian palm plant, is a very hard wax compared to beeswax, so you'll get a real workout trying to buff it by hand. Usually it's combined with softer waxes such as paraffin and beeswax in a blend to produce furniture wax. Floor waxes, which are meant to be buffed with a machine have a blend with more carnauba. Shoe polish, such as Kiwi contains a lot of paraffin. It polishes very easily.
The Ludmark probably won't harm your bass. You'll probably not like it though. If you can't get the Warwick, get a good furniture paste wax. It's available in better quality paint and decorating stores. I've even seen a Minwax brand at Home Depot. I haven't tried the Minwx brand so I can't comment on it. I use a brand made in England which I'm happy with. You can also use neutral shoe polish. I've used it on my natural oil and varnish finish P bass and it works very well.
