Question Help!?? Where do i place the strap buttons to play my bass vertically????

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello there, thank you for checking out this thread.

I'm having a bit of a problem figuring out where to place the strap buttons on my 7 string Conklin bass. What im trying to achieve is being able to wear and play my bass on stage with it hanging VERTICALLY, or close to that. i beleive ive seen that some place a strap button behind the heel of the neckm but have never been close enough get a good look and confirm this???

As is, my Conklin is Brutally neck heavy, and find myself having to phisicaly muscle the head stock upwards for the entire duration of the show, wich is excrutiating to put nicely.

i tend to play some what hunched over with my bass kinda infront of my groin area, while in a wide stance, with my bass vertically infront of me. (i play in a Death Metal Band

Can anybody out ther PLEASE HELP ME figure out whe i could move my bass strap Buttons so that my bass hangs vertically on me????

Thank you

I don't know how much help this would be, but get a good look at Fieldy of Korn or Rob Trujillo of Metallica on stage and see where their strap goes.

thanx Chuck, i'll see about that. i checked out Risha from Decrepit Birth, and Derrick Boyer from Suffocation, and they both seem to have their upper strap button behind the bass at the necks heal??? i dont want to start drilling holes in my bass with out a decent confirmation.

Anyone out there know anything about getting your bass to hang vertically???
Thanx for reading this thread

well you might be able to take one of the screws that hold you neck on by running through some dunlop straplocks and still use that screw to help hold you neck

but im not a luthier so i dont know if there would any problems

From "The Fender Bass: An Illustrated History":

"In 1960, Fender added the strap button to the back of the Jazz and Precision Headstocks. (Traditional players used this button to help strap the bass vertically, allowing them to play as they were accustomed in their transition from Upright to electric Bass)

If you try this method, I would really recomend strap locks, as the strap tends to slip off very easy in this position.

I was having the same issue! Check out this thread, it has a few ideas where to move the strap to keep the bass vertical

playing vertically: good balance, no wrist tension
