Here's a dumb question-

Sign in to disble this ad
Vintage Fender bridge: Nickel or chrome?

Yes, I know it's a looks only thing, probably no effect on sound or tone, but, all that aside, is there any difference at all (besides the finishes)?
Would combining them on the same bass bother anyone?

Told you it was a dumb question.
Thanks!

Thanks, that seems like a fair answer.

Hi.

Chrome plating is used on top of the nickel plating to increase the durablity, so nickel wears out faster without the crome.

Maybe also consider if you are likely to be allergic to nickel. It turns my skin black (I don't use nickel strings) but a friend of mine actually comes out in a rash if he plays nickel for any length of time.

That has got to suck, I've never heard of anyone with a nickel allergy before. Figures he'd want to play the bass too...

Very good point.

Really?

I'd guess about 50% of teenagers who wear cheap (nickel alloy) jewellery will develope either allergy or at least sensitivity to nickel.

Thanks to all for the responses.

No nickel allergies over here, just looking to change the bridge on my J bass with something more period correct for the bass.
