Hex wrench for a Lakland Skyline?

Sign in to disble this ad
Having a bit of trouble finding a 4mm hex wrench that will fit into the cutout at the base of the neck on my Skyline Glaub. The short end of the wrench is about 1/8-3/16" too long. Tried two different sets.

The set I got from Stew-Mac has a ball-end on the long side of the wrench that will fit in the opening and seat into the nut at an angle. I don't feel confident about cranking the truss rod at an angle, plus the short end doesn't give me much leverage.

Does anyone know if you can still get hex wrenches directly from Lakland?

No problem. Just take the proper size hex key and cut a few mm's off the business end so it fits comfortably in the recess. I use my Dremel tool w/ cut-off wheel; takes about 15 seconds. A fine tooth hacksaw will work, as well.

The ball ends work fine as you describe, that's why they are designed like that, tight spaces. Loosening the truss provides little resistance to turning. When tightening, I always put my hand behind the nut and.knee at the base of the neck and gently bend the neck forward to relive the tension on the rod, the nut turns freely. Once finished wiggle the neck back and forth to seat the nut.The second poster has the other solution if you remain uncomfortable.
