i play a squier p bass and am really enjoying slapping i was wondering what bridges you guys perfer for slap. recently i went to guitar center and noticed how much less resistance and how much more boyancy there was in the bridge of the american p bass vs. mine. any info you could throw me would be greatly appreciated. please and thank you |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Brookfield, CT | | | The bridge has little to do with it. Adding a heavier bridge will make the tone ever so slightly brighter, that's all. The differences you noticed have to do with the bass as a whole.

What you want in a bridge is STABILITY. If you find that your bridge saddles shift, replace it: http://www.allparts.com/Bass-Bridges-s/1.htm
Don't spend too much $$ - the main issue is likely NOT your bridge but that you are playing an inexpensive bass. A USA Fender is just a better instrument than a Squier (hence their extra cost). |

There's really nothing else to it.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: Connecticut | | | yeah man...and try not to get to stuck on the fantasy of slapping...its a good tool to have in the closet, but most bands will not call for it, if you really want to practice something start trying to learn more theory, theory can be applied to any style you choose to play...i regret the two years i worshipped Flea when i could have been actually studying theory and learning the ins and outs music to become more versatile. |
