High C string SUSTAIN PROBLEM!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
hi fellow TB'ers, I have a problem with my BTB405QM and Im wondering if you guys can help.

Lately I have strung this 5 string bass with EADGC - normal tuning with High C at the top - and it seems that other strings sustain as much as when it was tuned normally, but the thin C string (D'addario, 32 guage, long scale) seems to have only half time of sustain than other strings... what should I do to get more sustain???

Help plz...

id say, either C is a dead-spot note of your neck, or the fact that you havent recut a nut to match the thinner strings is leading to it moving around in the nut, eating up your sustain.

would getting a thicker c string work as well, cause i don't think I have a dead spot on my neck,,, when it was strung with dif. strings, it sustained just fine.

Here's a couple of things to try -

A. Raise your C string saddle
B. See if your nut is filed too low.

If these don't work, you may just have a dead string

imo, when the relief is fine, and there's still fret-buzz on open strings.
