Question High frets... help??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ibanez SRX 500. I just bought it from a fellow TB'er who lived down south. I got it used to my area then I checked the setup. I think I got it as good as I could. I noticed that all of the frets are taller/higher from the 12th down to the body. Is this normal? What should/ can I do? Thanks

That is kind of weird. Maybe take it in for a fret dressing?

Hi.

If the frets are seated properly, it sounds like a partial fret job. Not at all that uncommon as usually only the lower frets wear out. It's half the price after all and there's no body parts to look out for.

If the majority of the playing is done below 10th fret and/or the action is high, it really doesn't even matter to most folks. Nor do they notice it.

The fret wire is by no means a standardized item, some OEM fret wire sizes are impossible to find anywhere. Then the luthier just picks the nearest one and works from there.

Just get them dressed and that's it, shouldn't be too expensive either.

Regards
Sam
