Which bridge is better? And why? Are there key differences?
I'm looking at 4 string chrome versions on each, the "A Style on th Hipshot" and reg. 4 chrome on the Badass. |

Because its a great, beefy bridge (with the cool logo etched into it), and it only cost $39 (guitarpartsresource) as opposed to a BA or HS which cost considerably more. Just my 2 cents fwiw.

That's just what I got, the Gotoh 201 (the one with 5 screw holes to make it a direct replacement for Fenders).

or the cheaper one.
I opt for the cheaper one. They're both quality products, so comparisons are pretty much moot. |

Hipshots are very cool, too...

| | | | I personally like hipshot when compared to BA.
They offer an aluminium bridge which I greatly prefer to brass.
I don't know what the BA is made of and have not had a bass with it installed on it, so can't comment on it's in-use value.
+1 to zooberwerks point, stating that mass does not necessarily equate to sustain.
One important aspect of selecting a bridge is, as far as I'm concerned, if it is easy to set up, and if it's comfortable under the hand when palm muting.
I use a naimish bridge on my main bass and love it.
The wooden bridge on another bass, which is even lighter, does not lack sustain in comparison. |

I think that the hipshot is a better bridge being able to load the strings on the top of the bridge it makes for easier switching of strings, IE: flats for one show, switch to rounds for another.
Just my $0.02.
