Hipshot A or Badass II ?

Sign in to disble this ad
The bridge on my Jagcision (custom jag body with precision neck) isn't looking too great, and I hear amazing things about both of these bridges, but I'm wondering what would be my best option.

Thanks TBers!

They're both good, high-mass bridges. The Hipshot just costs way too much.

I have basses with both. I really love the classic sound of the Badass, I particularly dig the slotted version. The Hipshot is a better product in my opinion and can also be used with string through. More subtle too. So I vote Hipshot. Yes they are pricey but shop around for a good deal.

I always end up coming back to a Badass.

Get one used, I got one for like $60

I'd leave it alone or get a Gotoh 201 honestly, but from those options the BAII. Gotoh is like 32$ and sounds better than a BAII IMO, which is bright, shrilly and made from the wrong metal, abeit about 2lbs too heavy too.

I have a BAII, and the base is quite thick. It's thickness limits it to a medium action. Sure wish it could go lower. I noticed that the Hipshot A has a much thinner base, so I am probably going to try one of those next.

I've had both. I much prefer the BAII.

If you're serious about installing a well-made, reliable, easily-adjustable (including lateral spacing) bridge and price is not a primary consideration, I'd go with the Hipshot A.

Hipshot A. My P has one, and its by far the classiest looking bridge out there.

it is sexy ain't it haha.

And from what I've been seeing for online pricing, the BAII seems to be almost the same price as a Hipshot A ($65ish for the BA, 80ish for the Hipshot)

I'm thinking hipshot is gonna be the direction I go...

Now about pickups and wiring.. haha

Love my hipshot A. No experience with a badass, but I have nothing bad to say about the hipshot.

IMO the Badass II looks bulky and akward compared to the gorgeous and svelte boutique style Hipshot A.

If my wallet were thicker, my bass would be proudly struttin' the chromed aluminum Hipshot A ($64 on eBay) like Mike Lull uses on his amazing basses.

Come to think of it...Hipshot A in brass or aluminum... vs. Badass II?

For now, I'll stick with the Fender vintage chrome bridge with threaded saddles (P.N. 0990804100) shipped to my front door for $22.

Hipshot any day over Badass, the only cool thing about Badass is the name really. It raises the action too high requiring shimming, I use these instead, the vintage ones, they are thin like Fender bridges but have quick release for the strings which is a must for me. And the overhang hides the multicolored D'Addario balls...

I have heard that using a BA or Hipshot bridge can increase your string tension,is that true?

Also consider the Schaller 463 Roller bridge. I'm a long time user and huge fan. Fully adjustable including for spacing, and really improved the tone and sustain of both basses I've installed them on.

-John

PS - For the record I really hated the Gotoh 206...
