Hipshot or Badass II on MIM Fender Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums and need some advice. I've been interested in swapping out the bridge on my MIM Fender Jazz bass. The saddles are way to flimsy and I'm having a tough decision between two bridges. The Badass II bridge, which I found at my local GC in stock, or the Hipshot bridge. My main concern with the Hipshot bridge is that I'm unsure of which style will fit my bass. Any help is appreciated.

What Hipshot type bridge?
you can find a direct replacement hipshot bridge for fender basses at bestbassgear.
I bought a Hipshot A 5 string fender bridge from there.

Hi mate - swapping the bridge on my MIM Jazz Deluxe was the first bit of modding I did - I used a High Mass Gotah bridge, which I'm really happy with. Being honest, it looks cool and was a good first step in modding, but it has made no noticable difference to sound or playability, it's just easier and sturdier when changing the intonation. I know some people who swear by bridge changes, which I understand on a Strat or something with a tremelo, but on something as solid as a P or J bass I really don't think it makes much difference. Another option which I did to my P Bass was to get a Fender Hi Mass Deluxe bridge and some ferrules - this involves borrowing a pillar drill to drill through the body so that you can set up a through body bridge, which is a bit tricky and quite bold to do to a Fender, but that really, really did make a noticable difference to the sound quality. Hope this has been some help

I have the Badass II which comes standard on the Geddy Lee model, and I put the Badass III on my MIA Deluxe. I love the sustain, quality, and over all playability of these bridges. My vote, go Badass!!!

Thanks for the input guys! I was looking at the Hipshot A and B styles but was more so leaning towards the B style. Wafu, I don't really feel comfortable drilling my bass but thanks for the great advice. I'm looking for a bridge that will give me an increased amount of sustain and tone. I like to play funk, jazz, and other stuff so I'm looking something that will be great for slap and pretty much any other style of playing.

badasses are back in the world!

if you get the pre-grooved version, you can slap it on yourself and just set the strings in whichever grooves let them line up between the pickup magnets.

I put a BAII on one of my SX shortscales and immediately noticed a difference in sustain and focus. I was skeptical that would make a difference, but it certainly did to my ears.

yeah the badass bridges are really nice. its the first thing i did on my MIM p bass and MIM jazz bass. i have the hipshot tuners and they are great. You can call Dave at hipshot right up(numbers on their website) and he will send you exactly the right bridge if thats the way you wanna go. either one im sure would be great.
