Are Hipshot A Bridges Of Varying String Spacings Interchangeable?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Hiphsot A on my six-string with 19mm spacing, and would like to switch it to an 18mm- just checking to make sure the screw holes will be in the same location from anyone who's dealt with them.

Nope. On A bridges the mounting screw holes are relative to the string spacing (if this make sense).
The screw hole in the center doesn't move, tho. For a change from 19 to 18mm the difference will be so small (1 mm per side) that will not be a problem. Just install the bridge with the first screw in the middle to center it and the screw down the two outside one making sure you tight them down a little at a time so you pull both sides evenly (doe it make any sense?)
I did this before with no problem.

Sorry, just realized you have a 6 strings!!!
Still, if you tight down the screws progressively to even out the pull side by side, it will work.
If not the most accurate way would be doweling the holes and re-drill.

Thanks for the tip. My vision is really bad, so if I go through with it, I'll probably take it to a tech; redrilling could be pretty disastrous if I'm holding the drill
