Hipshot BT1 on G&L/EBMM?

Sign in to disble this ad
The Hipshot BT1 is listed as the replacement for G&L and EBMM tuners. However, the tuners on my L2500s and SR5 are significantly shorter from the top of the clover leaf to the bottom of the tuner than the BT1 or HB1. About 3/8" difference.

I'd like to put a detuner on my L2500 and try it strung E-C for a while, but I don't want a detuner that sticks up so far above the other tuners. Is this an issue anyone else has notice on their G&L or EBMM basses with the original tuners?

I'm getting my info from Hipshot drawings (http://bestbassgear.com/dims-for-bt1...3-bt7-bt10.pdf) and actual measurements of the tuners on my personal basses. Not gonna blow the money on a BT1 till I figure this out.

Thanks.

BTW - I have an almost identical set of Schallers on a J-bass and they are the same dimensions as the Hipshot HB1, which the BT1 is designed around. IOW, the clover leaf paddle sticks up higher on the Schallers/HB1/BT1 than the G&L/EBMM.

I own 2 mm sterlings, 1999 and a 2001 and I installed hipshots on both of them when I bought the basses back then. I never noticed any thing odd about them.I still own these basses too I just got one for a mim jazz deluxe too. Installed in 10 minutes.

Per this post in the G&L Club, the shaft IS longer and requires modification for the pegs to be the same height off the headstock.
