Hipshot D-Tuner Colors?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ibanez BTB405QM with Gotoh tuners, and I want to get a Hipshot detuner for it. Problem is, The hipshot tuners come in Chrome, Gold, and Black. This wasn't an issue for my MusicMan with chrome hardware, but my Ibanez has this gunmetal/brushed metal look to the hardware. I don't want to replace the rest of the hardware just to match the Hipshot, and I don't want mismatching colors. Any ideas??

Tune BEAD instead of EADG...then you don't need a D-Tuner. Otherwise I think you're out of luck.

A bit of a long shot: If you could find some Ibanez spares and get a matching machine head to the ones currently on your bass, then replace any bits possible on the hipshot with bits from the new ibanez machine head.

Though I think this will be limited to the tuning key itself because the rest of the hipshot will be the D-tuner mechanism

Well Fargo, its a 5 string, and I have several other 5 strings, so that's not so much what I'm worried about. And Theta, that's not a bad idea, but it would be hard to find the more of these tuners, I still havent seen one that looks like these.

Changing all tuners seems like the better option, unless you can get your hands on a monorail detuner. Which may prove difficult.

Buggery. Head on over to the luthier section and find some helpful advice on refinishing a machine head? I'd speculate it's only a different coating on a common base with the hipshot tuners. Or find a colour of hipshot you like and swap out the existing machines to match. Would be pricey though.

Edit: Jazz Ad beat me to the latter suggestion

Yeah I wouldn't be willing to buy all new tuners, and then my OCD would kick in and I'd have to get 5 new monorail bridges, and all new knobs. Might try refinishing.
