Hey guys. I searched through the hardware and setup forum for an answer to my question, and couldn't find it, so here goes. I recently switched from a hipshot detuner to a double stop detuner. Hipshot claims that you can access three notes with this lever, and go on to say you can detune, in most cases to a low B from your original E. I also changed my strings from some standard ernie ball slinkies to dr drop down strings. When I had a standard detuner lever, I just detuned to D, and there was no issue. With the double stop, I'd like to be able to drop to D, and continue down to C.
The problem is, no matter how much I back out the adjuster screw, I can't seem to get lower than C #. I even went as far as removing the low note adjuster screw entirely,(the one in the tuner assembly, back plate, not in the lever), but to no avail. I wonder if perhaps this is an issue with the DR strings? Perhaps they're more resistant to pitch alteration than the slinkies I had before? If anyone has any input, I'd really appreciate it. |

So if you can't get a good answer here, try contacting them via this page: Contact > Feedback > Hipshot Products
You can call or send them a message through that page. They've always been very responsive to my questions. |

If you still have your original Slinkies, try throwing on the old E-string and see how far you can drop it. If you can't get it down to C, contact Hipshot - they might have an answer for you.

Additionally, I just had the nut worked on (slotted and adjusted etc) as part of a complete setup I had done, so it should be fine. This is my first time using DR Drop Down tuning strings, so perhaps they're the issue. Unfortunately I didn't keep the slinkies. Perhaps a string change is in order. I've sent a message to hipshot, I'll post their response in order to help anyone who might have this issue in the future. |

I picked up a set of D'Addario Nickel Wound strings, in the same gauge (45 -105), and any issues I was having disappeared. I can drop tune to C, or even B, with no issues using the detuner. Perhaps the DR drop down strings are more resistant to losing tension, and thus not completely compatible with the hipshot detuner. They worked perfectly fine dropping to D, but were really unable to drop any further, at least within the range of motion of the Hipshot detuner. This of course, is my limited experience and shouldn't be taken as gospel. |
