Hipshot Drop Tuner Squeak

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,

I just got a set of new used hipshot HB7 tuners, one of them being BT7 extender. They were mounted before, but never strung up so are in seemingly great shape. I got them all mounted up, but when i tune the BT7, it sort of squeaks. More of a lower pitched squeak. It is possible to overtighen the screw that holds the gear on? i would have guessed no, but am not sure. Is there a recommended type of lube or somthing for this? graphite powder or anything? Any other suggestions to try first? i am a noob w\ these.

Thanks!

yes, you can over tighten it.

white or lithium grease will do the trick. They *do * need to be greased - but don't go crazy - just a little touch between the plates does it.

Here's Hipshot's installation and assembly diagram. It may not be exactly like yours but will be similar.

I use Vaseline. Just a little bit goes a long way. Use so little you can't see it.

If you take it apart lube the post where it goes through the sub-plate assembly. They also recommend putting a touch of Vaseline where the lever cams against the sub-plate. On older ones the lever may need to be lubed where it pivots against the sub-plate.
