Hipshot GB7 d-tuner problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello

I'm having problems with this GB7. The GB7 is based on, and made from the Gotoh mini tuner, by the way.

Anyway, it worked well for about a year, but it has started being difficult to tune and keep in tune, both the E and D notes. I removed it to have a look and the small screw that holds the base of the assembly to the back of the headstock had worked a little loose. I fixed the screw hole by putting a sliver of toothpick in it to tighten the fit of the screw, so that is fixed.

I also made sure that the lever is lubed with petroleum jelly on the cam surface and I always lube the nut slot with graphite to help the string slide in the nut. But its still not reliably detuning and retuning to pitch. Its better than it was, but still not quite right, and I've come to rely on it - I use it quite often (I seriously doubt I've used it enough to wear it out however. I bought it new only a year ago).

How about that adjustment screw that adjusts the dropped note? That has a spring to keep tension on the screw so it will stay in adjustment. That spring feels kind of soft on tension. Should I try a stiffer one?

Any ideas? Thanks!
