Hipshot HB2 vs. Hipshot Ultralite vs. Stock Fender?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a Fender Power Jazz and I'm really loving the bass, with the exception of the neck dive. I'm not a fan of that...

My thought was to replace the tuners with Hipshot HB2s, as I know they are well made and would look like the stock ones (huge plate).

But I figured I should ask first, how much lighter are those than stock? I don't see a weight posted on their site.

And if those are merely a slight difference in weight, I'd be more likely to go with the Ultralights, assuming that THEY are drastically lighter than the HB2s.

Anyone have some weight experience with the HB2s? Or even have a weight of one so I can compare it to the stock?

I would assume they wouldn't be that much lighter than stock, but I'm not really sure. You can email Hipshot directly. They have always been very receptive.

I've got the UL's on a few basses and love em. I'm contemplating getting a 3rd set for my P bass.

UL's would help. Take off 2 original tuners to see how it affects the dive to get an idea of how much it would help.

Yep, when I tried that I took off the E and D so the weight distribution was closer to all four being installed.

I've switched from Hipshot ULs to Gotoh Res-O-Lite 350s, 4 of the Gotohs weigh about as much as 3 Hipshot ULs further reducing the weight on the headstock.
