Hipshot HB6Y Ultralites vs Gotoh GB7 tuners

Was wondering if anyone can give me there take on these tuners compared to each other.I have a highend 5 string that came with the Gotoh and to me it feels a little neck heavy.Am thinking about if I should have got the Hipshots which are aluminum and would take a little from the weight and Mass of the head stock.Any opinions on what difference that may show up?

I'm a big fan of the Hipshot Ultralites. The difference in balance / degree of neck-dive may be significant or negligible...depends on your particular situation. They're not cheap, either, but worth the $$ IMO. I also find it easier to tweak the tuning tension to taste...I like 'em a little on the stiff side myself.

Going by weights published in this thread, you wouldn't be lightening it very much -- 1.5 oz. or so, less than the weight of a single tuner. Try just removing the tuner closest to the nut and see if that amount of weight difference makes it balance better.

I am also considering tone variations also?Do the lighter tuners change the tone in any way and how?

Roger Sadowsky claims that it adjusts the location of dead frets, but I've never noticed a difference except for weight reduction.

Any tone difference you get from losing .13 lbs would be negligible at best.

I prefer Hipshot over Gotoh. The tone difference wouldn't be noticable. We use Hipshot in our shop and swear by them!
