I have a parts-bass project going and I would like to use some good tuners on it. I just ordered a brand new MIM Fender neck (I haven't received it yet). All the holes on the neck are pre-drilled, so I would hate to start drilling new holes for different tuners.
There's nothing wrong with using the Hipshot HB7s, except it's hard to find a place that has them in-stock, and they're a little pricey.
So, does anyone know of any alternatives to the HB7? Schaller?, Gotoh?...

Since I'm starting a parts-bass project from scratch, I'm going with a higher quality 27:1 gear ratio ( more precise - good for a Precision Bass ) tuner...

Anyone knows other drop-in replacement tuners for MIMs?

| | | | I obtained a 01 USA jazz neck that someone drilled for MIM tuners(gasp!) It LOOKS like Ping MIGHT make some. I'm thinking of going back to the Schaller/Fender ultalite borons and just woodfilling the holes. My other option was quality MIM replacements. But, those Hipshots are just too much dollar and everyone elses quality at the under 50 buck price is a little sketchy looking. |

I guess I'll stick with the stockers, as long as they do their job (and they do surprisingly good, better than my deluxe ones).

not trying to hijack the thread but what kind should I use, I've been told these fit the vmj. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...Set?sku=363044 but that some drilling is needed.

The large plate may cover the old holes.
Just an idea

| | | | No worries BG76. My choice remains:
Hipshot drop-ins for $75, or
OEM(kinda)Schaller/Fender ultras for roughly the same ducats.
Which road would you guys take? Sorry about the thread hijack.

Allparts does have a Gotoh that looks like it will drop in (TK-0908-001)
as well as a Schaller (TK-0791-001)
The only Hipshot product I have is a D-tuner.
