Hipshot Licensed Tuners

Sign in to disble this ad
I remember way back on here, somebody asked where to buy hipshot licensed tuners. Somebody said that Lakland might sell them, but they only use full-size tuners. I'm looking for gotoh gb7 replacement sized. Anybody know where I could get these?

For hipshot licensed tuners? I'm not talking about the US line.

Anybody know if Sadowsky sells their import tuners?

I didn't know Hipshot had licensed tuners.

The GB7 is a very common style. Wilkinson, Gotoh, and a bunch of other no-name companies sell them on eBay. Anything will work.

Contact Jason Ungelich at HipShot. He's a heckuva nice guy and will steer you in the right direction. FWIW, there are a few design differences between the US and lic'd imports:

*The imports are not ambidextrous...they cannot be switched from bass side to treble and vice versa.

*The male / female thread configuration of the large retainer nut is reversed.

*The US models are ever-so-slightly larger in diameter.

*On the imports, the cap screw tensioner has a larger head and requires a larger hex key...forget the size.

Both are excellent products....you won't be disappointed!

I would add a few more differences to this handy list:

I just swapped out a set of HS "Lic'd" tuners with genuine HSs (black), and the difference in performance is clearly noticeable. Part of this, I believe, is due to the replacements fitting the holes much better than the "Lic'd". However, just holding each in my hand and fiddling with them, the genuines feel more solid and firm in their turning. Also, there is more "play" in the peg shaft in the "Lic'd" tuners than the US models. With the black variety, the "Lic'd" have a glossier finish while with the US ones have a more matte appearance. The black finish on the "Lic'd" tuner gear teeth has begun to wear off, exposing the sliver metal beneath - this despite having very little use. Perhaps this will also happen to the US replacements, but I hope not.

Overall, this is a significant upgrade for my particular bass.
