Hipshot Piezo Bass Bridge - saddle adjustment question

Sign in to disble this ad
I am switching from Carvin strings to DR Lo Rider nickels on my Carvin XB75P, which requires moving the B saddle back to intonate. I find I can only move it back less than half way before the screw bottoms out. Is this typical?

I have this trouble with my fretless, can't get the saddle back far enough. I removed the intonation screw and threaded an old bass ball end onto it before re-assembling ... acts as a spacer between screw head and bridge. Check that moving it so far back doesn't strain the wire to the piezo saddle.
If the spring compresses solid and restricts movement you can cut it shorter. Good luck

In fact thinking further, since the saddle has a piezo wire running from it, exceeding the natural range of saddle movement may not be wise, i recommend buying a single tapered string since these do not need the saddle so far back to intonate. I have discovered myself that non-tapered strings need the saddle so far back one then has problems with the fat string going through sharp angles from ball end and over the saddle.
