The more intriguing question is if one could drop B to A.
Michael Manring has a bass with four drop tuners, why not 5?
Steinberger had the TransTrem bridge, where you could pull the tremolo and the bass would go into an alternate tuning. Very few bass TransTrems were ever built-they relied on a string that was purpose built for this system.
IMO this could have been the greatest tool ever- I always wanted to find a TransTrem system to see if I could go from EADG to BEAD on a 4 string.
Im halfway through my first cuppa coffee...I should review this post in a few hours to see what drivel comes off my keyboard this early
