Hipshot tuners

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering what the differences are between the tuning machines that have "Hipshot USA" stamped on them vs. the ones that have nothing stamped. The Modulus I just got has black tuners that look like Hipshots, but there's nothing printed on them. Would it be worth it to replace them with nicer ones? Thanks

The ones you have are just generic gotoh-style tuners. I wouldn't recommending dropping that much money on new Hipshot tuners unless yours were slipping, you wanted a color change, or you were changing over to Ultralites.

Need a pic for clarification. My Modulus came with Gotoh GB-7's embossed with the Modulus logo.

These don't look like the stock Modulus tuners that I've seen before. They're the hipshot shape but have nothing printed on them. I'll get a pic up asap.

They appear to be US Hipshot Ultralites. I've seen them in both embossed and plain varieties. The imports read "Lic'd". I installed the same thing on my Gen 5 as two of the tuners were bent. If its not a US Hipshot, it sure is a convincing knock-off.

I'm curious too--I have the exact same tuners, that somebody here on TB sold me as Hipshot Ultralights. I was going to complain to the seller, but they looked good and felt like the right weight, so I decided it was not a problem.

I'll have to check mine again, but I'm fairly positive that the Hipshot ULs don't have anything embossed on them.

Regardless, TS, be happy that you have some lightweight tuners on that sucker. You have no reason to "upgrade" them IMO.

The ones that I have ordered direct from Hipshot are stamped "Hipshot USA".

Here's a pic of a Hipshot UL from MusiciansFriend, which is what I'm comparing mine to:

I haven't been unhappy with my current ones at all though, they've actually kept in tune for over a week on the Q5, they fit snugly and feel smooth, so what else do I need from them? I'll definitely keep them on, just wasn't sure if they were a "cheaper" model.

Hi All!

Your tuners are ours. These are Hipshot tuners before we stamped them. We now stamp all of our tuners with the Hipshot logo. Hope this helps, Thanks!

Bill at Hipshot is great--He's gone the extra mile for me several times.
