Hipshot Ultralights... Helpful or Not?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to buy a Mustang Bass and most people know these bass are notorious for their Neck Dive. Would putting a set of Hipshot Ultralights make that much of a difference I should I just leave it as is? I can live with the dive, but if I can eliminate most of it that would be great.

If they do work do you know what shaft size I would need or at least how I could measure it?

They will help a little, but they're not always a cure. You measure the diameter of the tuning post, which it the part the strings actually wrap around. It will be either 3/8" or 1/2".

Definitely yes, Ultralites are a huge upgrade and will make your bass much more comfortable to play.

I did it on mine some years ago, helps a LOT!

Actually those tuners on Mustang basses are really cheap.

I think you should use the 1/2'', but best thing is give them a call to make sure.

best

I use Gotoh Res-O-Lite 350s on my Mustang RI, 4 of them weight about as much as 3 Hipshot Ultralights and that really helps the balance of mine.

Gotoh are also great,
in fact any good lighter set of tuners will make a huge difference.
