Hipshot Ultralite D-Tuner - remove lever?

Hi folks

I've just got a bass with a Hipshot Ultralite D-Tuner on it, which I'll never use. I'd leave it on, but the lever gets in the way a little when I hang it on the wall hanger.

Can I take the lever off...? I have see there's an allen bolt in there, but I have no idea what it'll do if I unscrew it...

There is a nub on the business end of that lever that holds the tuner position in regular tune. If the lever is removed the tuner will just rotate to its detuned position. Probably not what you want.
