Hipshot Ultralite Tuner Problem?

Sign in to disble this ad
I finished a jazz bass a few months ago, using a Warmoth neck and body. I am not new to building and have been building basses and guitars for quite a few years, but I am having a problem with this bass that I think may be the tuners.

Here is the problem I am having lately, tune the bass, sit down and practice for about an hour or more, and after playing, the bass is out of tune. Tune up and put the bass away in its case or sometimes just hang it on it's stand and the next day its way out of tune again.
I am using Sadowsky flats and each string has a minumum of 3 wraps around each post.

Any ideas?

I'm gonna make two assumptions:

*The tuners have 1/2" posts to fit the Fenderish headstock.

*You've tightened the retaining nuts and cap screw tensioners.

Hipshot also makes a 3/8" post which is compatible with Warwick, Cirrus, Lakland but may be too small for some tuner mounting holes on Fender-type basses.

Yes, 1/2" posts for the Fender headstock and the retaining nuts are tight.

Must be you then.

Jeez, I hate gremlins! Once you rule out things bass-like, you're pretty much left with the strings. I don't have a lot of experience with flatwounds so I can't help there...sorry! You might to run this past the guys on the "Strings" forum for they are much wiser than I.

Keep us posted as well.
