Hipshot Ultralite Tuners > Fender

I have a parts jazz that's really light and was neck-diving. '92 MIM Jazz neck, 11/16" holes in peghead. Got a set of lightweight tuners, 1/2" shafts. I figured they would somehow be a direct replacement, but no, the shafts are indeed significantly smaller than the holes.

Are there ferrules that I should use?

I installed them anyway, put the tuners toward the edge of the holes closest to the nut (the direction they're being pulled by string tension). They seem pretty stable and I surprised myself with how consistent I was able to be in their placement. The strings appear to come off the nut straight toward the pegs (that is, with no appreciable angle). The washer covers the gap on the face, but you can see a little of the gaps on the backside of the peghead.

Just wondering if y'all think I might run into any trouble down the line.

(BTW, no more neck dive!) TIA for your thoughts.

They should fit properly. Call or e-mail Hipshot for help here:

I use their stuff and their service has been excellent.
