Hipshot A vs Badass bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
My new fiver has a Hipshot "A" style bridge. I'm considering replacing it with a Quan badass bridge - if for no other reason because I'm used to it on my other bass (fretless). I've read great things about the Hipshot, so my question is, would this be a pointless expense?

Well, what is it that you hope to gain by switching from the Hipshot to the Badass?

Honestly, nothing to gain but familiarity. I'm primarily a DB player (ducks!). The new bass sounds and feels fine to me, but I've had the Quan bridge on my fretless for 17yrs now and I just wonder if having the same bridge on both would benefit me, psychologically at least, ha ha. Seriously though, both bridges are recognized as significant upgrades for cheap factory hardware. I was just curious why certain players - who are much more particular than I - might prefer one over the other, and why.

I've never had a badass bridge, but I have a hipshot A on my bass and I really like it, I would like it to be lighter though. IMO the Hipshot A is more aesthetically pleasing than the Badass. I don't think changing the bridge will give you a noticeable sound difference.

the only reason to change would be if the hipshot didn't have the exact string-spacing you wanted.

otherwise, you're not going "upward" in quality, just sideways.

Thanks! That was my suspicion, but it helps to hear it from another.
