Much to my surprise he told me that the bt2 was the direct replacement for my instrument. The website states that this model is for 67-82 fender basses (I believe, not quite sure). Was he right? Any idea why an 87 MIJ fender would be using the 67-82 tuners? |
Because the MIJ Jazz Bass Special used the same tuning machines (or essentially identical) as the '67 -'82 US basses. I just pulled out my JBS and looked at the Bass Xtender key, it's exactly like the BT-2 on Hipshot's website (I got my Hipshot for this bass in January 1988 so I don't recall the model number, but there were a LOT fewer ones then!!

). The BT-10 is for later MIJ Fenders. The plate is much smaller, and more sqaure than the BT-2.
And, my experience shows that the best way to contact them is to call them on the phone. I even once faxed a photo copy of a bass' headstock (Hamer Cruise Bass) so that they'd be able to source the exact right model for that bass.
