hitting pickups on slap

Sign in to disble this ad
My bass is tuned to BEAD, and I just noticed that due to this the string placement is a little to the right on each string. Now when I play slap, the strings hit the magnets on the pickups and make a loud popping noise. Will raising my action help eliminate this issue? Or is this just a sad fault of downtuning a 4 string?

I've had this problem before, have you tried lowering the pickups?

There doesn't seem to be much room to lower them into. I'm admittedly not too great with woodwork either and would most likely mess up my bass trying to make the slot deeper.
