Hmmm.. should I?

Hi guys, i picked up my old SX P copy today and started playing it. I hadn't used it in a long time, but it felt really comfortable. I was thinking about how i could put it to use and decided that i wanted to mod it, but i don't know if it's a good idea to put a lot of money into such a cheap bass.. is it worth it?

Some things i wanted to do would be;

Upgrade the bridge to a Gotoh 201
Upgrade the tuners to Schallers or something (not sure if this is completely necisarry, it stays in tune pretty well)
Swap out the pickups for active EMG's for better more articulate note definition, which the stock pickups lack.
Get it intonated and set up for heavier strings (i play in dropped tuning)

I like the feel of the neck a lot, but i don't like the look of the headstock..
I think i'm just going to keep the neck though, playability over looks for me.

So would you guys say it's worth it to get at least a few of these mods done, or are they all pretty manditory to make the bass play it's best?

I like the feel of the neck i

If you have the scratch, do the mods.

If you will like it more and play it more often, the mods should be worth it. It doesn't matter how expensive the bass is.

well, i modded a sx jazz bass i put an emg p/l set i had laying around, routed it out, upgraded the bridge to a high-mass and new strings. i liked it for a bit, then put the stock pu's back in. liked it better.
searchin through the forums, the general mod's that make people happy are:

new bridge
new strings
new tuners
possibly new neck, but if your comfortable with it and it has minimal flaws keep it.
i also tuning BEAD, the nut needed to be filed for the b string but not the bridge.
learn to do your own set up it easy.

I want this thing to become my main bass, since my mexi-P isn't doing me any good, and the SX feels better than it. I've been wanting to get an MIA P for some time now, but i can't afford to put that much money into a bass right now. If i do the mods on this and it will serve me well for a good amount of time, i think it'll pay off.

When i get the cash, I plan on modding an cheap 6'r I bought- an Ibanez Gio GSR206... It plays well, and feel good, but the pickups and electronics are horrible. I'll probably have as much $$ in those as i do the rest of the bass. Oh well!
