Hofner pickguard

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I have just bought a Epiphone viola bass, which is the replica of the Hofner 500/1 for those who don't know.
Epiphone made them without a pickguard, and i would like to mimic the look of the Hofner, so was wandering if i bought a hofner pickguard would it fit on the epiphone?
Also to the owners of the viola bass, any advice on customizing it ie. pick ups, bridge etc. would be helpful. Cheers.

I was wondering the same thing. I just ordered an Epiphone viola bass and I currently have the Rogue which has a pick guard so I was going to see if I could swap it out when it gets here. There may be differences in the contours etc.

Something just doesn't seem right about a 500/1 without a pick guard.

I don't think it will. I've had a few Hofner's, two Icons, and now I have a Contemporary. The pick guards are a little bit different. My suggestion would be to buy a blank pick guard from a place like this:
Project Guitar Parts - For Hofner guitar parts, Hofner bass guitar parts, Vintage replacement scratch plates, Eko, Watkins, Colorama

Then all you'd have to do is buy the mounting hardware and cut out the spaces for the pickups.

they will not fit. the Epi's, Rougues, Brice, etc etc are quite a bit different shape than the Hofner when you get right down to it.
A Rougue guard might fit though.....?
The different Hofner models - German, Contemporary, and Icon don't even use the same pickguard shape and are not interchangeable for the most part.
I'd buy a blank sheet of the MOP material and cut it myself, then get the mounting hardware as Rickenhofner suggests.
