hole too large for p/ups

anyone got any ideas?? i own a u.s.a j bass, the previous owner routed out the body and put larger p/ups in it (aarrgh)
the neck p/up is fine as i've bought a new pickguard,the bridge p/up is the prob?? j.bass p/ups 3/4" the hole is 1" 3/8"
any help would be well appreciated

I'm assuming you mean front to back? How about cutting it for an MM style pup?

It's very difficult to replace wood and to get the finish to match so that it won't show. Sometimes it can't be done. If it's a solid colour opaque finish, you can fill the excess and refinish it and never notice it is there. But, it can be a time consuming, expensive proposition.

You may have to make up an extra pickguard for that spot to hide it. It won't look stock though and it can look quite odd if the shape isn't right.

I have a bass player friend who compulsively modifies every bass he gets, and he goes through a lot of them. One year 10 of them. He's become pretty good at making up pickguards to hide these problems. He knows full well he's destroying the resale value of the bass, but it makes him happy, so even though I think he's a bit nuts, I don't say anything.

i just found out you can get "pick up rings" but i can only find humbucker ones surely they make them for a J.bass ??

good idea but i'd prefer to keep the jazz pups, im working on "pick up rings" at the moment thanks
