Home renovations on a fender mim jazz bass.

Hey everyone,

I have a red 1993 fender jazz bass. I just put new bassline pickups in it and now im getting down to the cosmetic part. On the back of the bass were the horn is there is a curve in the body. I am thinking about just sanding in that ridge and leaving it as exposed wood. My question is what should I use to sand it down...sand paper or a sander? and what type? and what do I do after I sand it down to seal the wood? let me know,
