Hondo Acoustic Bass Pickup

Hi,I have a hondo acoustic/electric bass. My problem is that the E string pickup plays intermittently, the rest of the strings sound fine. Is this an integrated pickup or can it be fixed independently or do I have to replace the whole unit. I appreciate any help thanks John
