Horrible buzz on the E and A

Sign in to disble this ad
I keep getting horrible fret buzz on the E and A strings. I've tried loosening the truss rod, tightening it, raising the action, but I can't seem to make it go away. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Sounds like you need a new nut...

I did file it a little bit to string it BEAD, and just recently re-strung it to EADG..Could that be the cause of this?

yeah, when you file down your nut to fit bigger strings, when you decide to put smaller strings back on they sit lower in the nut and have the potential to buzz.

Nut problems create buzz only on open strings... is that what you mean?

If your tuning key's have screws, tighten them!

This could be a matter of fret-wear too. How much combat has this axe seen?. If it's open string buzz then it might be the nut too though. Take it in to a repair shop that you trust (there are a ton of shops run by morons and scheisters so beware) and have them figure it out.

If the buzzing happens when you're fretting it, you might need to re-fret the bass. You can do that yourself if you have the right gauge fret wire and some fret shaping files and probably you'll need a little glue.
