How accurate with the .3mm space b/w the 8th fret and string do I have to be?

I'm adjusting my truss rod and I've over loosened just a tad and over tightened just a tad. In other words my feeler gauge was barely touching once then there was a tiny space once and I do mean tiny and barely. I was wondering how close does that have to be? Also, How long does it normally take for the bass to settle in to it's adjustment?

I used that Mr. Gearhead link in the sticky and my relief is about .3mm like it said. My feeler gauge can slide in with maybe a very very small space between it and the string above the 8th fret. But a credit card is a little bigger and doesn't slide in freely. It lifts the string up just a small amount. Is my relief ok or am I just freaking out about little things?

You're freaking out over little things. Play with it until it's as good as it gets. Sounds like your relief is about right. It can take a day or so before it settles in. Abrupt changes in humidity can throw a wrench in things.

Then, after all this tweaking, you may find you might have high or low frets causing buzzing. You've got lots to freak out about. Once you get it right for you, you'll be happy though.
