How to: Aging a knob

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a late 60`s P Bass, but only the knobs are replaced, so are too shiny for that monster

has someone fo you an idea how to age those tone and volume knobs, so that they are matching the rest of the beauty?

Are there e.g. some fluids on which the metal reacts and it will darken? did someone this before and has some experience to share?
would really apprecciate this. thanks in advance

The knobs on my '69 and early '70s P basses appear to be chrome plated. The tops are a bit nicked and dinged but not dulled. However the plating has flaked off the knurled section in places revealing a dull grey metal underneath.

Soak them in some vinegar or Coke overnight?

Don't post this topic in the UK. It sounds a bit rude here.

AXEsRus in the UK do Telecaster (P Bass) Knobs in "brushed Chrome" which is duller than normal chrome. Nickel plated ones would be "dull" as well.

Got any kids that are teething?

Aren't Tile and Grout cleaners a mild form of hydrochloric acid - maybe?
