How Do I Raise the Bridge--Epiphone Les Paul.

Sign in to disble this ad
Epiphone Les Paul

The bridge has a screw slot on each side and a thumbwheel of sorts on the underside.

I would like step by step instructions on how to raise the bridge with nothing left out. 'preciate it.

Thanks, Tom

IINM that bridge is called a tune-o-matic or a tuneomatic. There are a ton of places online to get info on adjustment.

Here's one from Gibson's site to get you started:

It was hard for me to get a good pic close up. On top is a slotted screw. Underneath the bridge is a thumbwheel. I suppose I should loosen all the strings first (which I lazily didn't do last night and I damaged the screw slot a bit.)

I was wondering if there is any order of things, such as loosen the thumbwheel first or the screw first etc. and anything else.

Hi Scott,

I googled tunomatic and found bridges that look like mine. I haven't found a link that says how to adjust them yet, but I'll look more later.

That link if for a bass guitar with a truss rod. The Les Paul has a solidly attached neck and can't be adjusted anyway that I know.

I couldn't find how to back up from that page to other instructions. When I try it says to go to gibson.com but then I couldn't find my way from gibson.com back to those instructions. Could you advise? It looks like gibson.com/magazines.

Hi,
I was able to adjust the bridge height pretty easily once I loosened the strings. It looks like the thumbwheel and the screw on top turn together. I hope that is correct but that's what happened and I left it at that.

As far as a truss rod, there is no way to access it if there is one. No cover on the body or the headstock.
