How do I remove the cavity cover on a natural finish stambaugh

Sign in to disble this ad
I've unscrewed the screws obviously, but now I can't figure out how to get the darn thing off the bass. I can't pry it with my fingernails, and the thing only other thing I can think is getting some sort of tape and sticking it to teh cover and trying to pull it off that, but I don't know if that will mess up the finish. Unfortunately I'm not sure of the wood type or the finish. I've attached a pic though, so maybe you could help me with this. Maybe there's a special kind of tape? If not, any other ideas? Also as you can probably tell, I don't exactly know what I'm doing here, but I need to replace the battery, so if you guys could make posts super simple I would appreciate it .

Thanks a lot for your help!

(Sorry, no camera so I could only take a crap picture on my MacBook camera)

Have you asked Stambaugh?

I think you're safe with tape. Or, find a stiff piece of wire that will easily fit into the screwholes and see if you can gently lift the plate.

The first thing I'd try would be to turn the bass back down and rap on the top with my knuckles a few times. I'll bet the cover pops off, just like unsticking a ketchup bottle.

As I cuddled the porcupine he said I had none to blame, but me.

Suction cup. We keep a couple attached to the end of a short length of dowel rod hanging on the tool board in front of the bench. Push the suction cup down until it is firmly attached to the cover and pull the cover out of the recess. Just make sure you clean the inside of the suction cup each time for dust and dirt. No tape residue, either.

No suction cup handy? Use your vacuum cleaner.
