How do I remove the strap buttons from Ric?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am going to buy some Schaller strap locks, but I cant figure out how to remove the stock strap buttons from my Ricky 4003... I assume you have to twist them, but with what? I just figured there would be screws down in the middle of them, but when I looked, there wasnt. Advice please?

I know... this is a dumb question, but I just want to make sure how to do it before I try because I don't want to break anything.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have Ric style buttons - the threaded portion is part of the button. Don't bother with the buttons you bought, they won't work without a kludge. Rics generally don't use a screw, the button itself is threaded.

Contact the Rickenbacker Page and buy a set of 05904 Schaller buttons.

The ones on my Ric look just like the ones in that pic... How can I tell if mine are the Schaller ones or stock Ric ones? The bass is second hand, so I don't know what the guy that had it before me used.

They look *just* like the pic of 05904? Then you already have straplock buttons on the bass, you just need the strap ends and you're good to go.

I would need a pic of the stock Ric buttons to compare, but they do like alike. I suppose if I ordered the locks, and it didn't work, I'd just have to order a new set of buttons.

Thanks a lot.

There's a pic of the stock buttons just above the 05904 ones on that linked page. See the hole/lack of hole?

So the Schaller ones have an empty cone shaped hole? And the stock ones have no hole? Guess mine are Schaller then. How to the locks attach to the button?

Is there something supposed to be in the bottom of the hole, or it the hole kind of pointless?

Urgent! Schaller Ric straplock question....

I have recently discovered that the strap buttons on my Ric 4003 are the Schaller ones designed for Ric's for use with the Schaller locking system. I am thinking about ordering a new set of strap locks (for my other bass). Will the normal locking part work with the buttons designed for Rickenbackers? This was I could use the same lock with both of my basses.

The title says urgent because I want to order them NOW, so I need replies ASAP.

Thanks.

If it's like Warwick Strap Locks, which are similar to Dunlops, then no. I'd suggest you order both parts of the strap locks, just to be on the safe side.

Schaller made the buttons specifically for Rickenbacker to fit the Schaller locking system, so I am going to assume it will. It is too late anyway, I already ordered them.. Oh well, I need some for my old bass anyway, so if it doesnt fit.. Oh well.

Yes. Yes. Imagine pulling a nail with a claw hammer, plus a pin that goes in the hole to keep the strap end from falling off.

So the Schaller locks that come with the new set I ordered (with a button for my old bass) will work on the ones that are already on my Ric?? Nobody answered that yet...
